Hi there! I never know when, or how, to begin these kinds of things, so I'll just jump right in!
The love of my life is a (not so little) big black baby (cat ... if that wasn't clear). His name is Cain, and he had a bit of a rocky start in life—I found him and his two littermates in a box someone had sealed and left outside of a cafe I went to in order to meet with my therapist.
(Short tangent: I was meeting with a therapist in the first place because I was in a triple rollover car accident that killed my German shepherd, Jade, and gave me paralyzing PTSD about driving.)
These kittens made me SO MAD—not at them, but at the people who abandoned them there, because they were MAYBE 2-3 days old. I had to feed them 'round the clock, every two hours, with warmed-up kitten formula out of an eyedropper. Unfortunately, we lost one of the boys (Amenadiel), but the other two were doing fabulous—one went to my mom (Lucifer) and Cain stayed with me.
Another few things you should know about Cain—
- He is dumber than a box of rocks. He once spent about 10 solid minutes headbutting the wall, purring, then got sad when the wall didn't pet him. Recently, he caught his tail on fire on a candle (that I thought was out of reach of the cats ... teaches me!) and just watched his tail burn with mild interest while I was freaking tf out.
- He's a shoulder sitter!! He'll stand up on his hind legs and streeeetch to pat at my tummy to tell me he wants uppies. Then he'll contentedly watch as I go about my daily chores. Someday I want to get him one of those swaddle things, because I think he would LOVE THAT.
- Because he was taken away from his mommy at such a young age, he LOVES to suckle on soft blankets ... and also me. Someone once asked if I had babies at home because I had a big wet spot on my shirt and I was like haha nooo ... that's just ... my cat ... (didn't make it any LESS weird, lemme tell ya)
- He is HUGE, easily 12 pounds or more, and he has these beautiful tufted ears, but I often joke that if you read his mind, you'd just hear elevator music ... or this.
Anyway, about three weeks ago, I noticed he was having trouble eating and seemed to be in a lot of pain on his left jaw. So I took him to the vet and she confirmed that my baby has a mass in his mouth. It's placed awkwardly enough that there's no way to find out if it's cancerous or not without removing it altogether.
He went on a two-week regimen of antibiotics, which seemed to help increase his appetite by LOADS, but now that the antibiotics have run out, he's back to not eating nearly as much as he was before.
Fortunately, my vet DOES take payment plans. UNfortunately, they require 20% of the bill as a down payment on the day of the procedure (which would be about $250), and living in America, having lost food stamps etc etc, I just cannot afford even that smaller amount. This is my first time creating a gofundme so I'm sorry if I've made any mistakes, but thank you for reading if you got this far!
FOR FULL TRANSPARENCY: The vet actually quoted me two prices: the cheaper one wouldn't address if any of the the other teeth might have/been developing any masses (so we'd have to potentially put him back under AGAIN), but the more expensive one will remove ALL his teeth so that would cease to be an issue. I'll be enclosing pictures of both invoices just for transparency's sake.
IN SUMMARY: He is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, Nov.25th. I can push the date back, but he's already begun not to be very interested in his food again and I'm scared. I only need 20% of the full prices (between $250-$300 in order to have the surgery performed + money for a Lyft ride there and back (shouldn't be more than maaaybe $30 round-trip).
