Meet Bourbon Rose! She is an incredible dog. She has spent the last 7+ years being a medical alert dog for her mom, allowing her mom to live a more active life than if she didn't have such a beautiful animal helping her out.
Unfortunately, Bourbon recently suffered some health crises. All at once, she was diagnosed with not only diabetes and DKA, but while in the hospital, they discovered a mass in her bladder. None of these are easy things to treat, but Bourbon survived the DKA, has gotten her diabetes under control and was able to visit Purdue University in Indiana at their cancer center to establish whether there is a treatment for her particular cancer.
While at Purdue they discovered she's one of only a handful of dogs that have a surgical mass in the bladder. This is amazing news. The next step is to shrink the tumor enough to make surgery possible. The Oncology team had suggested Chemo which is a very serious treatment especially on a diabetic pup. So mom decided to return home to Oklahoma to unpack all the information and choices with her primary vet Dr Carlton. At that time Dr. Carlton suggested that we try the proper anti-inflammatory drug Piroxicam before chemo to see if it might possibly work.
Guess what? It did!!! It shrank by 40%. Amazing news! However in the meanwhile Bourbon suffered blindness from diabetic cataracts. She needed cataract surgery right away as she was suffering depression and stress from the loss of sight. Which also efrected hee glucose levels. All funds deferred to the expensive $5000. eye surgery. But the good news is that it was successful and she's is feeling so much better and her glucose is super regulated!
So now on to the cancer surgery! All of these medical treatments and tests come at a huge cost. So now we need to raise as much as we can to pay for all the treatments charged up so far, plus the equipment, surgery, tests, medications and ongoing treatment she will be needing.
