**Berlin’s Journey**
Berlin, our tuxedo Manx kitten, has a truly remarkable story that highlights the power of teamwork and compassion. Rescued from a challenging situation where he lived in poor conditions with far too many cats, Berlin developed pica-like behaviors—ingesting random foreign objects in an attempt to supplement his nutrition and cope with stress. This led to an urgent need for surgery when he was just 8 weeks old.
Fortunately, Berlin came into the care of Animal Rescue of the Rockies, which connected him with the compassionate veterinarians at For the Love of Cats and Coyote Ridge Vet. Their collaborative efforts ensured he received the emergency surgery he desperately needed. From the moment he arrived, Berlin has brought joy into our lives—his curiosity and playful nature have made him an incredible addition, even among the various foster pups we’ve had.
Recently, after receiving vaccinations, Berlin began experiencing severe vomiting and lost his appetite. Initially, we thought it was just a food change, but when he stopped eating altogether and lost 1.3 pounds in just one week, we knew something was seriously wrong. After several vet visits, an ultrasound revealed that he requires surgery once again due to another foreign object—an unfortunate consequence of his ongoing pica-like behavior, which we hope he will eventually outgrow.
The funds raised are crucial in covering the medical expenses associated with Berlin's care, including surgeries, ongoing veterinary visits, and specialized treatments. As of surgery morning the vet is quoting a minimum of $2,700. As we operate our sanctuary primarily from our own resources, the financial support we receive makes a significant difference in helping not just Berlin, but all the animals in our care. Thank you for being a part of this journey and helping to save this amazing little guy who has already overcome so much!
