Hello my name is Aida and I am helping my dear friend Hilda Chavez raise funds for her newborn son Athan who, having just arrived into the world on October 1st, needs to have surgery to treat metopic craniosynostosis — this is a condition where the metopic suture, the bony ridge that runs along the midline of the forehead, fuses prematurely.

I had the pleasure of working with Hilda for a couple of years when we were both waitresses at the same restaurant where she always treated me with kindness. Despite whatever she was going through, she delivered exceptional service and always had a smile for our customers. A former teen mom, Hilda has five other children with Athan being the newest addition to her lovely family. She has always done her best to provide for her family, sometimes even working more than one job.

If left untreated, metopic craniosynostosis can be fatal, as it can lead to dangerously high pressure inside the skull that can cause brain damage or death.

Hilda has had to stay at the hospital since giving birth and unfortunately hasn’t been able to work this whole time as she is her family’s main breadwinner. Hilda and Athan should be at home resting with their family. I know times are tough right now, but anything you could please contribute would help Athan get the surgery he desperately needs as well as help Hilda and her family stay afloat during these difficult times. The arrival of a child should be a moment filled with joy, not worry.
