Last week, my dogs and I found a tiny Chihuahua puppy cowering and bleeding on my property in Ashland. I brought him in, checked him for major injuries, and cleaned his wounds. Poor little guy was terrified, malnourished, and exhausted. I put up pictures on Facebook and Nextdoor looking for his family and got a lot of social media love, but no one knew him. He had been sighted a couple of days earlier on the railroad tracks in Ashland. I had a few immediate offers to foster him, and since I have 5 large rescue dogs, I brought him to Britta, a local artist who had recently lost her senior Chihuahua. She took him to a vet when his wounds looked infected, and he was feverish and not doing well. He has clearly been neglected or living feral for a while.
Between wound care, ultrasound looking for internal injuries, antibiotics, spaying, shots, and significant dental needs, we are looking at at least $1500 to get this boy healthy. His foster mom is not in a position to cover these expenses while searching for his family.
