Sandi Litke has dedicated over two decades of her life to the Griffith Police Department, serving as the devoted Caretaker and Animal Warden of the town’s beloved animal shelter. For 23 years, Sandi has been a steady, compassionate presence, lovingly caring for and finding homes for hundreds upon hundreds of animals in need. Now, it's our turn to be there for her.
On February 17th, what was expected to be a routine outpatient arthroscopy turned into a life-threatening ordeal. Sandi coded twice, once for an unimaginable 32 minutes. Emergency doctors determined she required a triple bypass, and she was transferred to a specialized facility for the urgent procedure. Complications followed: a small brain bleed, liver and kidney concerns that nearly required dialysis, and debilitating fluid retention. Despite the setbacks, her heart held strong.
Through it all, Sandi fought with the same spirit and strength she’s shown throughout her career. She spent weeks in rehab, working to regain the ability to sit up and walk again. After receiving blood infusions, she was finally released from the hospital on April 9th.
Doctors call Sandi a miracle!
Today, we are overjoyed to report that Sandi is making an incredible recovery—we have our old Sandi back! But this journey has taken a heavy toll, not only physically and emotionally, but financially as well. Having exhausted all of her paid leave, Sandi now faces mounting medical expenses during this critical recovery period.
We’re asking our community—those who know Sandi, who have adopted from the shelter, who have witnessed her tireless care and kindness—to help however you can. Whether it's a donation or simply sharing this page, every bit of support means the world.
Sandi has spent her life giving to others. Let’s return the love and help her continue to heal.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
