Over the past couple of years, Sami has had severe medical problems, and we are asking for donations to help her and her family with medical care costs, traveling to and from appointments in Billings and potentially cities further away, and lodging while traveling to medical appointments.
In November of 2023, Sami was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a rare autoimmune disorder that affects the peripheral nervous system. Her initial battle with GBS left Sami paralyzed from the waist down. While in the hospital, she started to regain the feeling in her legs and was able to re-learn how to walk again. The battle with GBS left Sami with severe nerve damage in her legs and feet, which made walking a challenge. At first, she had to use a wheelchair to get around and slowly was able to re-learn to walk with a walker and then eventually with a cane. The GBS also affected her arms and hands, and she went through therapy to regain the use of her hands. The GBS diagnosis left Sami unable to work due to the nerve damage and left her disabled. Because of the severe nerve damage, Sami is constantly in pain, which has led her to be on multiple medications to help alleviate the pain and help her function daily.
Unfortunately, due to the medications to help with pain and a random sickness, last week, Sami was diagnosed with acute liver failure that left her hospitalized. Sami was transferred to Billings where she remained in the hospital for almost a week. After many tests and a liver biopsy, they received good news that her liver failure is in the early stages and the doctors believe her liver will be able to heal itself over time; how long, they do not know. Due to her liver not working properly, Sami is dealing with fluid building up in her abdomen and in her legs and feet, which has made walking with her condition very difficult, and she has had to walk with a walker again. Her team of doctors is now trying to manage her liver issue along with her nerve damage and help get her back on the mend. During this time, she is not able to work due to all that is going on. Her husband has had to take time off from his job to help Sami, staying with her in the hospital and taking her to appointments. Also, for the future appointments that Sami will need to go to, Tysin will have to take time off work to be there with Sami. If you are willing, please help Sami, Tysin, Angela, and Lane during this difficult time, any help is much appreciated!
