Dear family, friends, and kind-hearted supporters,

Life can change in an instant, and for Sami, that moment came with a devastating cancer diagnosis. At the young age of 28- recently married, enjoying their charming home in Livingston, Montana, and relishing in the simple joys of anticipating starting a family, travel, etc., Sami received a diagnosis of stage 3 colon cancer. While this news has left Sami, Brendan (husband), and her family at a loss for words, Sami is facing this battle against cancer with immense hope, love, and strength.

On 2/21/25, Sami underwent surgery to remove the tumor and part of her colon. Once recovered from the surgery, Sami and Brendan will make a temporary move from their home in Livingston, MT to Seattle, WA to receive further treatments. At this point, there are still a lot of unknowns, however, the oncologists have told Sami to plan for 3-6 months of chemotherapy treatment in Seattle. This move is extremely challenging for Sami and Brendan, however they are choosing to prioritize access to care in Seattle, as resources are very limited in Livingston.

While the details for Sami’s care and treatment will continue to unfold as more details come from the Fred Hutch oncology team, we plan to continue to update family and friends as things progress. Sami and Brendan anticipate many financial burdens with this diagnosis, as they begin to navigate medical bills related to surgery, ongoing chemotherapy treatments, family planning with fertility specialists, the unexpected move out of state, and potential disturbances to their abilities to work.
