Hi, my name is Safia. I’m 24 years old, and I’m currently starting life over—on my own.
I’m disabled due to several chronic illnesses, many of which currently have no cure (yet!!). In 2024 alone, I experienced two comas, a transient ischemic attack (TIA), acute liver failure, and rapid-onset carpal tunnel syndrome that required surgery this past February. I had major spinal surgery back in 2019, right before the pandemic. I may also need multiple additional surgeries soon, including endometriosis tissue removal or a hysterectomy, carpal tunnel surgery on my other hand, and possibly the insertion of a central line due to my failing GI system, which is no longer providing my body with adequate nutrition.

My life has been filled with pain and setbacks—but this time, I’m taking my life seriously. I’m doing everything I can to reclaim my power and improve my future. With the help of many therapists, doctors, hospitalizations, and treatments (including trying many medications), I’ve reached a place where I now know that I need support—and there’s nothing wrong with asking for help.

Because of my disabilities, I cannot work. I’m a survivor of many traumas, including sexual and emotional and other forms of abuse. I do what I can to support myself—through self-help workbooks, online support groups, and self-care—but unfortunately, money is still necessary to survive in this world. I need help covering rent, medical bills, insurance (I’m currently uninsured), basic necessities, and items for my new home, like bedding and a bed. I’m planning to keep things simple and affordable. I also need therapy—both physical and mental health support, especially trauma-focused therapy.

I’m currently waiting on SSI for disability, but as many know, the process—especially here in Texas—can take a very long time.

One of my biggest goals is to stay with my cat, who has been my greatest source of comfort and motivation for nearly 11 years to keep fighting. She’s currently being cared for at my home, but I hope to reach a point where I can bring her back into my life and care for her again.

This journey feels like I’m doing it “on my own,” but I know there are kind, caring people out there. For that, I’m deeply grateful for any support you can offer—even if it’s just sharing my story.

Thank you, truly, for anything and everything.<3
