Hi! My name is Morgan, and apparently I am my neighborhood dog rescue lady. In June, we rescued a neglected dog from our neighborhood. Two years ago, we rescued one that was dumped. And last Friday, we picked up Ryker- but Ryker is different. Ryker is a well-known dog in our neighborhood, because he's been living in his front yard for quite some time and roaming the neighborhood making friends. People come by and bring him treats, he will get into anyone's car that will open a doornfoe him, because he just wants to be loved and have a family. But, Ryker has experienced pretty severe neglect when it comes to his health, and when I talked to his owner, she said she realizes it's time to find a home that can take care of him, medically and financially. He is currently staying with us until we find a home for him, and we are attending to his medical needs while he is in our care: first priority was to make him comfortable. He has fleas, and infections in both ears, and his skin is infected. He We went to the vet today to get him treatment, and the medicine, tests, antibiotics, shampoos (plus heartworm test, rabies vaccination) is already at $1200. We then have a follow up visit next week, as we decide what to treat next, or test for next. We didn't even do a blood panel today, or tackle the tumors and cysts that cover his body because we just wanted to get him to stop itching and be able to sleep throughout the night without discomfort first.
I am actively looking for a new home for this big gentle giant, but know it will be easier when he's in good health.
All that to say, we are not a dog rescue group, and have already incurred the costs of the first two rescues and getting them fixed, we'd really love help with all of Rykers medical needs this time. It's a lot. If you can help us out, please do.
This boy is the biggest, goofiest lab mix you can imagine, and it breaks my heart to see him suffering. When we picked him up, he could barely open his eyes because they were so dirty, and now he is clean and fluffy and grateful to be inside with our guys. We even got him a special UT shirt so he could be one of the guys.
Thank you so much for reading and for your help.
