Never thought I’d be writing this but I’m not sure what else to do. In September we unexpectedly needed a new roof on our house which completely depleted our savings. Less than a month later we woke up to our dog Ryder extremely sick. Less than a year and a half ago she had an intestinal blockage from a squeaker which resulted in an $8,000 vet bill. After that we became a squeaker free household, got rid of any toy she could possibly eat, and got pet insurance on her so we were never in that predicament again. Fast forward to October 23rd, her symptoms were identical to last time and we knew what we were in for. After spending the entire day at the emergency vet, they confirmed she had a blockage but they weren’t sure what it was and thought it would pass with fluids. They kept her overnight, pumped her full of fluids and did repeat scans on Friday. Unfortunately, it didn’t move and she needed surgery asap. Turns out she had foam stuck in her small intestine (literally no idea where or how she got foam from). We had to pay 75% of the total before they would even go ahead with her surgery and the remaining balance before we could bring her home. We were looking at a $10,678 vet bill. Like I said, we have insurance on her, but her coverage is 70%, and we had to submit a claim in order to be reimbursed the money. With that being said, they also found something on her spleen they wanted to biopsy and her liver enzymes were extremely high so they wanted to do an ultrasound on her liver to find out the cause but with our credit cards maxed out, we were forced to tell them no. We received the reimbursement from the insurance company but still have a balance of about $4,000 plus whatever it’s going to cost to get her spleen biopsied & her liver ultrasound done (we were originally quoted $14,000 bc of them so I’m assuming around $3,000). On top of that, we have a 9 month old that I’m home with during the day so we’re basically on a one person income right now. Anything anyone would be willing to donate would mean the absolute world to us. I know a lot of people don’t have the money to spare, but if you could please share this, it would help just as much. Thank you in advance.
