A single act of bravery nearly cost our son his life yesterday. Now he needs help to heal. My son ran to help someone in danger; he never expected to be shot—twice.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 30th, our lives were changed forever. Our son Ryan, age 37, is a devoted father to his 10-year-old daughter and a martial arts instructor who has always believed in stepping in to help others. Around 4:00 a.m., Ryan was awakened by his roommate screaming for help. Without hesitation, he ran into the kitchen and found a young woman on the floor, bleeding and crying.

Not fully knowing what had happened, Ryan immediately tried to help. Recognizing the danger, he managed to separate those involved, get them out of the house, and lock the door—putting safety first. When Ryan returned to provide help to the injured woman, gunshots suddenly rang out. The man responsible began firing a gun directly into the house from outside.

Ryan was shot twice—once in his left knee/thigh area and once through his left foot. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered that one bullet is lodged in his thigh, narrowly missing his femoral artery but damaging a secondary femoral artery. Due to the high risk, the bullet cannot be removed and must remain in the soft tissue.

The second bullet entered the outer side of his left foot and exited near the big toe, shattering the first two metatarsal bones. This injury will require surgery and pins to repair.

Ryan is incredibly fortunate to be alive, but his road to recovery will be long. Doctors estimate at least 3–4 months of recovery, during which he will be unable to work or teach. He is facing physical pain, surgery, rehabilitation, and uncertainty—while still striving to remain the loving, present father his daughter depends on.

We are humbly asking for help to support Ryan during this difficult time. Funds raised will go toward:

*Rehabilitation and follow-up care

*Living expenses while Ryan is unable to work
