Help Support Ryan McMahan’s Recovery After a Devastating Injury

On Sunday, May 18th, my brother Ryan McMahan suffered a serious accident at home that resulted in extensive damage to his right arm. He was rushed by ambulance to a hospital in Charlotte, NC, where he immediately underwent emergency surgery. Today, he is undergoing a second surgery in an effort to repair the nerves, tendons, and muscles in his forearm. He will under go a 3rd surgery in a week.

Doctors are unsure if he will ever regain full use of his right hand. Recovery will take time—and even then, the outcome remains uncertain. Ryan is expected to be hospitalized for at least a week and will face months of physical and occupational therapy ahead.

Ryan is the kind of man who never hesitates to step up and work hard for his family. He’s a blue-collar husband, father of five, and the primary provider for his household—including his wife, Evie, and our grandmother, who lives with them and needs care as well. He works for a tree company, a physically demanding job that requires full use of both hands. Right now, that future is unknown.

He has medical insurance, but the costs of multiple surgeries, long-term therapy, and hospital stays will far exceed what insurance will cover. On top of that, Ryan will be out of work for at least three months—possibly much longer—with no income to support his family during this time.
