Donate to Ryan Jr.'s Fight Against Heart Failure

Hello, my name is Cheyenne and I am starting this GoFundMe to help support an amazing family, the Mitchells. Their 9-year-old son, Ryan Jr., was diagnosed at birth with Isolated Ventricular Inversion, also known as congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries. It is a very rare congenital heart defect, an extremely rare presentation of cyanotic congenital heart disease. Fewer than 20 cases have been reported with this diagnosis. At 5 weeks old, he was flown from St. Christopher's Children's Hospital to NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital where he had corrective surgery performed by the surgeon who came up with the surgery, Jan M. Quaegebeur, MD, PhD. After months in the ICU, he was released to finish recovery back at St. Christopher's Hospital for several months and has been followed by St. Christopher’s ever since.

Recently, he started dealing with some bad symptoms again and had to go back to the hospital, and it’s been a struggle since. He is currently in Stage 3 heart failure and is going back to Morgan Stanley Hospital for further care. We are praying he will be able to receive a positive heart transplant. He is 9, loves Hot Wheels and Thomas the Train, and has one older sister and one younger. He is a sweet and smart boy who has smiled through it all. He misses his classmates and teachers and can’t wait to be able to see his sisters. But Mom and Dad are doing everything they can for him to receive the best care. But with that being said, they are missing out on work, dealing with travel, parking, and bills with no income coming in. Also, little Ryan’s health insurance is not covered at these out-of-state hospitals, so they need all the help they can get!
