Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone is having a splendid beginning to 2025! My name is Ryan (23) and since December 2023, I have been grappling with a complex chronic spinal injury. A dynamic herniated disc, compromised endplate, and a bulging disc in my lumbar region have greatly disabled me. Due to the nature of this injury and fragility of these tissues, I have been experiencing excruciating neuropathic pain from the top of my legs down to my feet with even minor movement. Since late September 2024 I have been largely bed bound and am only able to leave the house for physical therapy and 10 minute strolls. I cannot stand for more than 20 minutes without fueling a flare up. This injury has resulted in my inability to work, care for myself, or finish my college degree. My entire life has come to a standstill. I have worked with three separate physical therapists since April 2024 and have tried numerous modalities to little avail. At 23 years old, I never could have imagined I would be in this position.

Recently, I learned about a procedure called Discseel where a physician injects fibrin, a gluelike substance that aids the body in the natural clotting process, to treat the leaky discs. Fibrin seals the fissures in the discs, eliminating the herniation and spurring the body’s natural regenerative healing processes. The procedure boasts an 82% overall success rate and a 70% success rate for those who have undergone previous failed spinal surgery. I am an eligible candidate for this procedure; however, unfortunately my health insurance plan does not cover Discseel, leaving me to foot a $16,600 medical bill. My unconditionally supportive partner and I are currently living off a single income, making the cost of this procedure arduous.
