Rosie's Journey to Full Recovery
Donation protected
My name is Sara Knobel and I am currently the director at the Groton Public Library in Upstate New York. My library is located in a small lower socioeconomic rural town. I am the only full time employee. I also work two other jobs. This is a fundraiser for my beloved horse, Rosie.
She had a catastrophic injury that started on Friday, November 29, and quickly progressed to involve her whole hoof capsule of her left front foot. Our local vets were stymied, and then we went to Cornell where they recommended euthanasia. Then Dr. Karen Gellman recommended we reach out to Daisy Bicking at the Daisy Haven Farm in Parkesburg, PA.
Rosie went to Daisy's on the evening of Thursday, December 19, and arrived very early in the morning on Friday, December 20. Since she has been there, she has had two treatments of medical maggots, two hoof perfusions, and lost 85% of her hoof wall. She has remained bright and alert with a great appetite. Rosie is on low doses of pain meds. She feels well enough to talk to and flirt with the other horses, so she has the will to live.
She is now out of the woods, and barring any complications or setbacks, she should make a full recovery. But the recovery will take time. She has to grow the majority of her hoof back, and that can take up to a year. I am asking for donations to help me cover the cost of her care. Her care includes all the veterinary care and supplies, board, supplies, and care at Daisy's.
Rosie's journey will become a case study that will assist other professionals, including veterinarians, and quite likely will save other horses!
