Hello All,
We are rescuing cats at a beach area, south of Recife, Brazil where, after retiring from Boston, we have built our retirement home.
The beach village is 2 hours from major cities and is a common weekend retreat for families. Very quiet during the week, we often see cats and dogs roaming the streets. Some of these animals have serious medical issues. Many continue to birth kittens and puppies who struggle, often abandoned.
For the past 4 years my wife, Rosangela has become an "angel of mercy" for them. She is unable to pass by an animal in need and not embrace them.
We've taken in many. Ro's daily routine includes feeding and caring for those with us, as well as others who have migrated toward our home in the nearby streets.
We are currently caring for more than 25 animals and have recently taken in a mother cat who was at our gate a few days ago. Ro took her in to evaluate her, and cleaned her up. The following day Ro discovered three 2-day-old kittens, who's eyes had yet opened. They were found hidden in a large pipe storage area, all squeaking for help... We have mom and the kids now safe in a closed area she has set aside to triage.
Our care includes spaying, castration and medications to help with infections and illness.
Sadly we also have covered putting down animals who are suffering and/of have a contagious illness that can not be cured.
For years we have covered all food and medical expenses, having been unable to get the local government or Veterinarians to support taking care of this growing populations of animals.
Our end-goal is to adopt them off and we have several success stories watching them cuddle into the arms of their "forever families".
We are hopeful we might grow a support group through GoFundMe to help with these expenses and possibly fund an area we can build which can temporarily house them.
Please consider a donation, either one-time or monthly. We will provide news on our efforts and would gladly keep in touch with anyone who has questions, comments or just wants a peak at our "herd"
