Hi, my name is April Garcia, and I am starting this GoFundMe for my Aunt Rhonda. In September 2023, Rhonda was diagnosed with Stage 4 uterine and endometrial cancer, which had metastasized to other organs. This devastating news was hard to process, but Rhonda remained strong and brave. Despite her own struggles, she comforted us, saying, "Do not cry. We are going to fight this." Rhonda is a fighter and a breast cancer survivor of 27 years, embodying strength and resilience. She is the sweetest, funniest, and most amazing woman you could ever meet.

After consulting with several doctors, we decided that MD Anderson in Houston was the best place for Rhonda's treatment. The doctors were honest about the aggressiveness of her cancer but gave us hope. Rhonda started radiation in September 2023 and began an aggressive chemotherapy regimen a few weeks later. It was heart-wrenching to see her so sick, but she remained positive and determined.

In November 2023, Rhonda became very ill at home and was transferred to MD Anderson with a pulmonary embolism. I stayed with her in the ICU so my mom, Nelda Flores, who is Rhonda’s caregiver, could rest. The situation was dire, and the doctors weren't hopeful, but Rhonda chose to undergo a risky procedure rather than go into hospice. Miraculously, she pulled through. It took months for her to recover, including time in a rehab hospital to regain her strength and mobility, but she eventually came home, breathing on her own and able to walk.

After recovering from the embolism, Rhonda resumed her chemotherapy. In June 2024, her doctors recommended surgery to extend her life. On June 6, 2024, Rhonda underwent an eight-hour surgery, which successfully removed almost all the cancer. Though she had complications that prolonged her hospital stay, she eventually returned home. Three weeks after the surgery, her doctors advised continuing intensive radiation due to the aggressive nature of her cancer. Rhonda still has a tough battle ahead, but we believe she will overcome this just as she did with breast cancer.

Throughout this journey, my mom, Nelda Flores, has been Rhonda’s dedicated caregiver, never leaving her side. The stress of Rhonda’s health, mounting bills, and being unable to work has been overwhelming. The past 10 months have been incredibly challenging, and the travel expenses are adding up.

We are reaching out to friends and family for help to alleviate some of the financial burdens and stress. Rhonda worries about my mom, knowing how much she has sacrificed for her. Please continue to pray for Rhonda. We believe she will beat this.

Thank you for your support.
