Trump Cut Cancer Research Funding- How Can You Help?
Early this year in February 2025, the Trump administration decided to cut approximately $2.7 billion from the National Institutes of Health’s funding for disease research, resulting in a 31% cut in cancer research funds. This significant reduction in funding will likely result in fewer breakthroughs for diseases like cancer, weaker public health services, and a distrust for our already lacking health system. How can president Trump claim he wants to “make America great again” when all he is doing is making America sicker? Just four years of this poor funding will more than likely lead to our cancer research to be up to 30 years behind, and cause us to lose many of our best scientists who are studying the disease. 20 million people are affected by cancer worldwide, and 10 million die from it each year. The Trump administration claims that they’re cutting funds to prioritize “more important” issues, but part of this means the wealthy get to pay less on taxes, and the cuts are how this is paid for. We cannot afford to lose more lives to this disease and have slower progress just because billionaires want less taxes.
My Mission:
I am Adela Skidmore, a 15 year old student at Tamalpais High School, and I am trying to make a positive impact on the world. My goal is to support cancer research by raising money to donate to the American Cancer Society, but I can't do this alone. Here’s how you can help:
From now until June 8 at 7:00pm, I am hosting a fundraiser to collect donations this week. Every dollar you contribute will go directly toward groundbreaking research that improves treatments, supports patients, and brings us closer to a cure.
Cancer affects millions of children, adults, and seniors around the world- it may even impact someone you know. Please consider helping me fight this battle, your donation today can make a real difference in so many of those struggling with the disease.
Donating to this cause will help current and future cancer patients all across America and the whole world, saving millions of lives. By donating you are helping give the much needed push towards the cure for cancer. Please join me in creating a world where cancer no longer brings pain and heartbreak.
