Please help Laura rebuild after the Glass Fire.
Unfortunately, our good friend Laura and "our home away from home" suffered major, catastrophic damage in the recent Glass fire in St. Helena. Laura was evacuated on September 27 and has not been able to return to the property except for brief visits because there is no water or power.
The home in which Ezekiel and Teresa resided and the barn were reduced to ash. Nothing is salvageable. The winery, which is one of the oldest wineries in St. Helena, built in 1888, was completely burned leaving only the original stone facade which is at risk of crumbling and in need of retrofitting and rebuilding. Although Laura was fortunate not to lose her home, the winery was uninsured and Ezekiel and Teresa are in need of immediate support to pay living expenses as they rebuild.
Onita, Thea and I thought it would be a great if we can all donate to help Laura rebuild. We have enjoyed 4th of July parties and long weekends of lounging and laughing at Villa Remi. Laura's open door policy has provided all of us with comfort and much needed respite from our daily lives. We believe that providing Laura with funds to help Ezekiel and Teresa as they rebuild and to help restore the winery is a great way to show our gratitude for the peace and serenity that Laura has provided to us over the years.
Preliminary estimates to simply retrofit the winery to salvage the original stone structure to maintain the charm and beauty of Villa Remi will cost a minimum of $400,000. The winery was uninsured and is at risk of complete collapse if it is not retrofitted and restored.
