Please help us to help The Thompsons… please consider reading their story… this is a critical time for them as a family.
Help the Thompsons Repair Their Home. We've had the privilege of knowing them since our oldest child began high school at Coastal High School here in Myrtle Beach. Angel was our daughter’s teacher for music and American Sign Language; and Matt is a pastor and cleaned the school, and gave Quinn her first job working after school to help clean the school. They gave those kids so much!! We have been witness to Matt and Angel giving so much to so many, especially the students at the high school.
Over the past 4 years, as we've grown closer to them, we've learned more about their journey. Matt has undergone THREE open-heart surgeries. After his last one, doctors gave him only a 2% chance of survival — and that was seven years ago. Against all odds, Matt pulled through.
“When it rains, it hurricanes” they say and they often laugh it off and call it "The Thompson Way." But the challenges keep coming.
Over a year ago, the ceiling in their living room collapsed due to a leaking roof. 5 years ago friends put a roof on for Matt and Angel. It has not sustained. With Jeremy’s professional opinion and multiple small roof repairs Jeremy has done to help, this roof just needs to be completely replaced to stop the leaks that continue to come in during rain storms, rather than patch it, as they and Jeremy have been doing. The leaks cause mold and that is toxic to Matt in his guarded medical and cardiac state.
Over the last 6 weeks Matt has been admitted into the hospital because of his heart failing causing him to have unstable cardiac events. They did all the tests for a heart transplant and at the time Matt is very sick but his lab work and procedure values are just shy of making the transplant list, yet. Between Matt's medical needs, frequent hospital visits, we would like to put a new roof in their home and help give them some stability in the day to day and with traveling to MUSC in Charleston Matt is too weak to work. He has pushed daily for years working even when he wasn’t feeling well. Their daughter has come home to help with everything and to be there for their grown son who is autistic and this is hard for him, as well.
We’ve seen the Thompsons’ hearts — they are the kind of people who show up for others, love unconditionally, and serve selflessly. Now, they need ALL OUR help.
Would you join us in supporting them? Your donation will go directly toward replacing their roof and the damage inside their home.
Let’s love them the way they’ve loved so many.
Thank you for being part of their story.
