Dear All,
Our names are Sarah and Josh Van Der Puy. We have lived in western North Carolina for 25 years, and in Black Mountain for 12. We are so fortunate to have made it through hurricane Helene with family and property intact. Many of our neighbors and loved ones in the special community we have come to love over the past 25 years cannot say the same.
Thank you to all of you who love and care about us and those we love. I personally find Go Fund Me somewhat obnoxious, but do think it’s the best way in these modern times to allow you guys to put the $$ you long to give electronically into one pot, and KNOW that once the dust settles a bit Josh and I will use it to directly help in amazing and efficient ways to make the biggest impact for amazing humans who need it most.
our cleaning lady whose trailer washed away along with her daughter’s and son’s who we couldn’t reach the Monday after the storm because she was at work, our friend Scott who quietly without question started cutting people out and clearing roads they day after the storm despite losing supplies like $400 ropes that snapped trying to lift 15,000 lb trees, and our friends down the street whose home is a total loss at this point — just a few small examples of those in need.
we will use funds raised to provide cash directly to folks who need it, help replenish supplies to individuals that used theirs without questioning the impact would have on them to go without, help the now homeless obtain housing, help the resourceless have proper burials for their loved ones, and fund programs that help continue normalcy for kids who no longer have that.
thank you, thank you, thank you.
Love,
Sarah
