Chef Samah Haboub: When the Home Fell, So Did the Dreams
Chef Samah Haboub used to live a dignified life with her small family in a home overlooking the sea of Gaza. Her house wasn’t just a place to live—it was a paradise she built with her own hands, a source of inspiration and comfort for everyone who entered it. Samah is a mother of four children: Berlent, Ahmad, Nada, and Sarah, and she cared for her family with love and devotion.
Samah had a rare talent in Gaza: the art of making authentic Korean food. She was the only one who excelled at it in the region. From her home, she launched her own business, selling Korean dishes with the dream of one day opening Gaza’s first high-end Korean restaurant—an ambition she worked toward with tireless hope and effort.

But the war came—with all its cruelty—and destroyed everything.
Her home was completely bombed, and with it, her dreams and only source of income were lost.
She and her family were displaced more than eight times and remain displaced to this day.
She lost her stability and now struggles to provide even the most basic daily needs.
Her daughter Berlent had been preparing for the 2025 high school exams and dreamed of studying interior design. But the war denied her the chance to take her exams, and the family was deprived of the joy of graduation—like so many other students around the world.
Her youngest child, just seven years old, now dreams of things as simple as milk and bread.
Samah says:
“Every day my little girl cries because she just wants to eat a piece of bread and drink some milk. That has become her simple dream—and I, her mother, am powerless to fulfill it.”
Today, the family is living in true famine, with soaring prices and no steady income.
Samah, who once provided her family with everything—food, clothes, education, and even a little luxury—can now no longer afford a single kilo of flour.

ة الشيف سماح حبوب: حين سقط البيت وسقطت الأحلام
كانت الشيف سماح حبوب تعيش مع عائلتها الصغيرة حياة كريمة في منزل يطل على بحر غزة. منزلها لم يكن مجرد بيت، بل كان جنة صنعتها بيديها، ومصدر إلهام وراحة لكل من دخله. كانت سماح أمًا لأربعة أطفال: برلنت، أحمد، ندى، وسارة، وكانت تعتني بعائلتها بكل حب.
تميزت سماح بموهبة نادرة في قطاع غزة: صنع الطعام الكوري باحتراف، وكانت الوحيدة التي تبرع به. أسست مشروعها الخاص من منزلها، حيث بدأت ببيع الأكلات الكورية وتطمح يومًا لافتتاح أول مطعم كوري فاخر في غزة، حلمٌ كانت تعمل لأجله بكل جهدٍ وأمل.

لكن الحرب جاءت، بكل قسوتها، وقضت على كل شيء.
قُصف منزلها بالكامل، ومعه ضاعت أحلامها ومصدر رزقها الوحيد.
نزحت مع عائلتها أكثر من 8 مرات، ولا تزال نازحة حتى اليوم.
فقدت استقرارها، وأصبحت تعاني لتأمين أبسط احتياجات الحياة اليومية.
ابنتها برلنت، كانت تستعد لتقديم امتحانات الثانوية العامة عام 2025، وتحلم بدخول تخصص هندسة الديكور، لكن الحرب حرمتها من التقدم للامتحان، وحُرمت العائلة من فرحة التخرج مثل باقي طلاب العالم.
أما طفلتها الصغيرة ذات السبعة أعوام، فأصبح الحليب والخبز أمنيات بعيدة المنال.
تقول سماح:
"كل يوم تبكي طفلتي لأنها تريد فقط أن تأكل خبزة وتشرب حليبًا، أصبح ذلك حلمها البسيط، وأنا أمها لا أملك القدرة على تلبيته".
تعيش العائلة اليوم في حالة مجاعة حقيقية، مع ارتفاع كبير في الأسعار، وعدم وجود دخل ثابت.
سماح، التي كانت توفر لعائلتها كل شيء من طعام وملابس وتعليم وحتى رفاهية، أصبحت تعجز عن شراء كيلو من الطحين.
