Our mother, Eva, who lives in Apollo Beach, Florida lost her house to hurricane Helene. She got over 4 feet of water and, in addition to the property damage, lost almost everything inside the home. The entire house has water and mold damage and the initial estimate just to clear and dry the house (not fix things, such as dry wall) is 20K. She is 75 and has no income, other then social security, and has NO HOMEOWNERS OR FLOOD INSURANCE [due to recent astronomical rate increases] .
