*Enzo’s Fight to See the World*

Enzo is our baby boy, just 1 year and 10 months old, and he has already gone through 7 major eye surgeries in his short life.

He was born with a rare condition called bilateral coloboma of the upper eyelids, which severely affects his ability to see and protect his eyes.

From the day he was born, Enzo has faced one medical challenge after another. As a family, we’ve done everything we can emotionally, physically, and financially to get him the care he needs.

But the journey is not over, and now we’re reaching a point where we simply cannot continue covering all the medical costs alone.

Enzo’s Surgeries So Far:

1. Initial eyelid reconstruction – To correct the eyelid defect caused by coloboma.

2. Functional eyelid repair – To improve protection and movement.

3. Separation of adhered tissue – Released tissue that had begun sticking to the eye surface.

4. Reconstruction of the conjunctival fornix – A complex bilateral procedure using:

*Amniotic membrane*

*Oral mucosa grafts*

*Retroauricular grafts*

*Symblepharon rings*

5. Lacrimal conduct release and stent placement – To restore proper tear drainage.

6. Removal of stitches and support rings – To improve eyelid mobility and healing.

7. Emergency scleral graft surgery - Doctors discovered a damaged cornea and had to urgently place a scleral graft to protect the eye and prevent a possible retinal detachment.

What’s Next: A Keratoprosthesis (Artificial Cornea)

Enzo still cannot see, but there’s hope.

Due to the severity of his condition and the damage to his cornea, doctors have recommended a keratoprosthesis — an artificial cornea implant.

This is not a standard corneal transplant, but a much more complex and delicate procedure that is only performed in specialized medical centers.

The cost of this surgery is extremely high, and well beyond what we as a family can afford, especially after already going through so many procedures in such a short time.
