I met my good friend Remy St. Paul on a film set about two years ago, and I loved the guy from the jump. Chances are, if you are seeing this GoFundMe, you know Remy and felt the same way from the moment you met him – he always brings awesome energy and is willing to lend a hand!

Now, Remy needs our help.

Several years ago, Remy had a serious illness and at the same time, he slowly lost the sight in his right eye. This March, he began losing vision in his left eye. Imagine the feelings you’d go through losing your sight when your passions and livelihood is tied to making art, films and photography.

Now legally blind, Remy made visits to an ER and got further eye specialist appointments to diagnose and make a treatment plan for his condition. Remy has been diagnosed with thick cataracts on both eyes – a large one in the right eye and smaller one in his left eye.

In late June, Remy got a retinal eye scan and exam on his right eye, and the doctors believe that the cataract surgery will help him recover full vision in that eye, too.

In fact, the doctors have said once the surgery is complete, he will see better than he has in years. This isn’t just a procedure; this is a transformation of Remy’s quality of life.

His surgery costs are currently estimated at about $10,000; he has other pre-surgical medical appointments and medication that can be very costly, and he is moving to an apartment where he will have help during his recovery from the impending surgery. These total costs are estimated to be around $15,000 – money that is absolutely critical to get him the care he needs, yet cash that he doesn’t have a way of earning due to his condition.

For the past several months, he’s been working on films where he can, and he's been nurturing newborn goats and other animals while helping take care of a farm. But his declining vision has made full-time work nearly impossible and put a big burden on being able to get around to appointments and even the simplest things like shopping for groceries.

Fortunately, Remy has a dedicated and caring group of family and friends to help shepherd him through this difficult period. As you might imagine, he’s not letting this setback keep him down. Especially since he has an awesome path forward.

Your donations will go directly to his surgery, medical bills and housing costs while he recovers so he can get back on his feet.

Next up, he will have a cataract specialist consultation on July 21, and then he will be able to schedule the surgery.
