Hi, my name is Stevie, and I’m the proud mom of a bright, creative, and kind-hearted 6-year-old girl named Remi.

Over the last few weeks, our lives have taken a sudden turn that no parent is ever truly prepared for. We started noticing small but concerning moments. Times where Remi would suddenly “blank out” or lose awareness for a few seconds at a time. At first, we weren’t sure what we were seeing. Was it distraction? Daydreaming? But something in my heart told me it was more than that.

After a series of doctor visits, tests, and finally an EEG, we received the call no parent wants. Remi’s EEG was abnormal. It confirmed she’s having absence seizures, and there’s evidence of possibly another type of seizure activity coming specifically from the left side of her brain. While we now have some answers, we also have more questions, and more hurdles ahead.

Her neurologist has ordered an MRI under anesthesia at UCSF, which will help us better understand what may be causing these seizures. It’s a critical step, and also an emotional one, waiting for answers while trying to stay strong for our little girl.

Between medical appointments, testing, hospital coordination, and upcoming travel to UCSF, the financial burden is becoming overwhelming. Remi’s car is too priority, but the growing costs of MRI imaging, sedation, travel, and time away from work have become too much to carry.

We’re humbly asking for your help in any way you’re able:

Remi is more than a diagnosis, she’s a joyful, silly, deeply empathetic soul who loves books, animals, girly things, and her family fiercely. She’s the kind of kid who makes friends everywhere she goes and tells strangers to “have a good day.” Her light shines so bright, even when she doesn’t feel well.

She doesn’t fully understand what’s happening right now, only that her brain sometimes “takes a little break” and that doctors are trying to help. We just want to get her the care she needs to feel safe in her own body again.
