This fundraiser is about a man and his dog but it’s not your normal man and dog story. So we are going to try to sum all of this up in a nutshell.
I got a phone call from a longtime friend stating that she needed some help with a dog that had been left in the home of her son‘s father. It had been going on for three days and no one was able to go into the home and retrieve the dog. He needed to be let outside to go potty. His son was only able to feed, water and clean up the mess he was leaving.
The owner of the home was admitted to the hospital three days prior and a week before that was having some medical issues. The hospital stated that they were not sure if he was going to be coming home anytime soon. So we sprang to action, packed up our gear in the rescue van and headed to Grand Haven where the dog was being housed.
Upon arrival, the dog was agitated, nervous and scared, which caused him to defecate and urinate all over his owners chair. There was large amounts of snarling and uncertainty. Chance was scared. We left the home to regrouped outside and called one of our trainers. Superior K-9 Experience (Derek C.) drove 1 hour and 45 minutes to us so he could safely remove the dog.
He loaded the dog into the van so we could bring the dog to the owners best friend’s home which was in northern Michigan. As we waited, we noticed that the home was in horrific conditions. There was no garage door. It was just a tarp, the home was cluttered and filled with debris. The smell was unbearable and unsafe. For the past 15 years, the owner neglected everything about the home and himself. We would say more of a hoarding situation along with working long hours to survive and having this giant dog, destroying the home made it even worse.
So fast-forward to the the dog trainer that drove 1 hour and 45 minutes. He came in and we did video, his safe containment. It took under a minute.
The shear terror in the eyes of the poor furbaby was so heartbreaking. After a short walk to decompress, he was safely placed into the rescue van for transport. We arrived at our destination and the owners best friend removed Chance from the van. Chance recognized the best friend and seemed to be more at ease.
Here is the sad news… his owner did not make it. He died at the hospital from internal bleeding and heart failure. They did say that he had suffered a concussion a week prior and that may have had something to do with his demise. So now the best friend is wondering what to do with his best friend’s German Shepherd dog. He has dogs of his own and works long hours himself.
So this left us with a dilemma. Where would Chance go?
We talked to the dog trainer and he agreed to take on Chance!!! To train Chance to be more comfortable in his own fur and to get adopted out to a loving home! This is gonna take some time and money.
We have three weeks to raise $3500 for the care and training of Chance the German Shepherd dog. Please help us help him because if we wouldn’t have stepped in, his future would not exist.. Chance CAN be rehabilitated to love another as he did his late owner
Mike… Godspeed Mike. We are the safety net for Chance. Please donate! The countdown is real.
