FFHMC: Leaning Into Community

My name is fēi, I have been the Gallery Director for Future Friends HMC for the past 5 years, and home to the Murphy Arts Building for the past 7 years. My journey with Future Friends has given me the most expansion of creative form that I never knew that I could have. I was scared when I got the opportunity to have this place, I thought, How could I? Me have this space? I am ready for this? The capacity to be bigger than what I understand has always been scary for me. So when I decided to take a chance to be uncomfortable, I was able push through so many different periods of evolving of Future Friends and ultimately myself.

Through my years at here at Future Friends I have operated on a one person show with sprinkles of angels that come to my aid. My fear of expanding to more has left me to take all the weight of holding space, thinking that I could bare the weight if I had full control. The pressure that has grown to push me through mountain tops has grown into a volcano of erupted unease experiences of shame and burden that is unexplainable in search of words for the right feelings. My capacity has been stretched and undermined for sometime now and I'm ready for relief. I don't want to continue this journey of struggle and shame. For a place like Future Friends deserves all the best intention and love. So I'm reaching out to my community to help me aid a vision of refreshment to expand a space to create sustainability for the longevity of what safe spaces does for all creatives. A place of creative eco-systems that make connections, evolve, fellowship, inspire, inclusivity, history of storytellers of present times, the trailblazers of culture, healing place, a place to always call home. These are the many things Future Friends has provide me and other creatives in the community. With your support I hope to continue Future Friends HMC as so and more.

So, what is needed at this moment?

Times have been hard trying to balance a space that I love and tend to my entrepreneur goals as being a creative. I have attributed all my personal cost and time to maintain the space andover time this has caused me division amongst my personal care and home. I'm in need of some space and time to align and regain better focus for my well being. My goal is to step down and take a wellness pause from Future Friends. This comes with much needed help to up hold operational costs and physical maintenance of day to day gallery needs.
