Update 9/5/24
I visited with Rees, Andrew and Amanda today. Rees was in high spirits playing video games until he got tired and wanted to rest. At 3pm he got a new chemo today. The 3rd kind this cycle. He just crashed a little. His heart rate spiked. The doctors are monitoring him closely. Please continue to pray for our sweet boy.
UPDATE: Chemo Day 5 Update.
Rees had another good day yesterday. We got to see him smile. He started joking around. Most importantly, we got him to finally eat a little before bed. The appetite stimulant is working. Rees received some cards yesterday and we started him a card wall. He also received a package with a cool shark stuffie.
In the midst of this being the worst week of our lives, yesterday we received some good news. Rees' spinal fluid was clear!!! So it is not in his spine and brain. And more importantly, the genetic marker test came back showing Rees is in the Low Risk category!!! Praise God!!! We are praying Rees will not need a transplant. We will not know this for sure until after cycle 1 at the end of the month when he recovers and they can do another bone marrow Biopsy.
So we have a long month ahead of us. After this first cycle we have several more here and will probably be here at least 6 months. Rees is holding his head high and keeping himself in high spirits. I will continue to say he is the most amazing human I know.
Thank you for the continued prayers, love and support. We feel our village and that we are not alone.
Rees Michael Stewart, a freshman at Bellefonte Area High-school, A beloved friend, nephew, grandson, cousin and most importantly brother and son needs our help. After being sick for a week and not getting better with medication, Amanda took Rees to the Mount Nittany Hospital for testing Wednesday. After getting home from the hospital she received the worst phone call a Mother could ever imagine. His blood showed blast cells common with Leukemia. They quickly came to Danville and were admitted to Geisinger. Rees underwent many tests the last couple days, CT scans, labs, Bone Marrow Biopsy, lumbar spinal tap, and finally had a medi port placement. Today we received the news the doctors were preparing us for. Rees was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He begins chemotherapy tomorrow. The road ahead will be very long and difficult. Several months will be spent in the hospital. But Rees is the most amazing human I have ever met. I am asking for prayers as we await further results and support Rees through this battle.
Many have reached out to ask how they can help Rees and family. We thought starting a GoFund me would be the best way for family and friends to donate to help alleviate some of the financial burdens so Rees and family can focus on his recovery. Donations will go towards gas during travel back and forth, food, medical expenses, and items to help make Rees as comfortable as possible during his treatments. Please spread the word and if you can’t donate at this time please keep Rees in your prayers❤️
Cards to help lift Rees's spirits can be sent to: Rees Stewart
