Donate to Rebuild Lives After Hurricane Ditwa

My name is Vinuji, an undergraduate senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I am organizing this fundraiser to support families in Sri Lanka who have been severely impacted by Hurricane Ditwa. Having spent the first 17 years of my life in Sri Lanka, the island and its people remain deeply meaningful to me. The regions affected by this disaster are home to communities that played a significant role in shaping my childhood.

Hurricane Ditwa has caused widespread devastation—homes have collapsed, entire villages have flooded, and thousands of people are now without shelter, food, clothing, or basic necessities. Countless families are struggling to rebuild after losing everything.

As of December 3, 2025, Sri Lankan authorities have confirmed at least 465 deaths, with 366 people still unaccounted for after severe floods and landslides. The estimated cost of rebuilding homes, roads, and essential infrastructure has risen to US $7 billion, and more than 1.4 million people across the island have been affected. The situation is heartbreaking and the need for help is urgent.

Because many donors have understandable concerns about where their contributions are going, I want to be fully transparent about the process. Although I live in the United States, all collected funds will be transferred to an official bank account in Sri Lanka, not to any personal account. Once in Sri Lanka, these funds will be recorded and monitored through the appropriate government authorities and used strictly for relief and rebuilding efforts in affected communities.

I am working closely with trusted local volunteers, monks, and community leaders who are actively helping families on the ground. Through their direct involvement, the funds will be used to provide essential supplies such as food, drinking water, clothing, hygiene products, medicine, temporary shelter materials, and school items for children. They will also help support small repairs and rebuilding efforts for homes and community structures. Since these individuals are physically present in the hardest-hit regions, they are able to identify the families who need assistance most urgently and ensure that aid is delivered directly and fairly.

I will remain in continuous communication with these partners to the best of my ability, and as relief efforts progress. I will also share updates and photos so donors can see how their contributions are helping real families. Sri Lanka is strong and resilient, but the needs right now are enormous. Even the smallest donation can bring comfort, stability, and hope to someone who has suffered unimaginable loss.

Thank you sincerely for your kindness, support, and generosity.
