Imagine having to move out of the home you’ve lived in for 12 years. That's exactly what happened to Emily, Lalo, and Banks.

Initially, they were excited. The landlord was putting in new floors, a welcome upgrade after all this time. The family scrambled to pack up their entire lives. With the landlord only offering to pay for a storage unit or a hotel, Em made the practical choice to put all of their belongings in storage, believing they'd be back in their home soon afterward.

But the situation took a tragic turn. During the inspection, severe black mold was discovered, forcing the landlord to abandon the project and decide to demolish the home instead. Now, their 12-year home will be gone, and they have nowhere to go. The place where so many memories were made—countless family moments (including bringing home a new Baby Banks)—is lost to them at the drop of a hat.

They are in an impossible position. Their whole lives are packed away in a storage unit, and they are now faced with finding a new place to live and having to possibly rehome their pets, along with all the costs that come with it: security deposits, moving fees, and the first month’s rent. The stability they’ve known for over a decade has vanished in an instant.

In addition, this unforeseen situation has left them with no choice but to start over completely. Because they had already begun preparing for the new flooring, they parted quickly with nearly all of their furnishings and many belongings. The plan was to replace those items once the project was complete. Now, with no home, they are facing the daunting task of moving into an empty space with none of the basics needed to make it a home.
