Hello, I am a 61-year-old disabled woman living alone who has (had?) a son who was supposed to be doing maintenance on my vehicle while being the main driver for the better part of 3 years. I had to threaten to call the police to finally get it back, only to find he’d done oil changes and one brake job, but it was so loud, I asked if something had happened to my exhaust system. His response was (after saying he hadn’t noticed) that someone had hacked off the front catalytic converter! I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d been the one to do it. He’s in recovery & he’s stolen much more than that from me. I took it to the gas station shortly afterward & noticed every single light on the dashboard lit up, as well as the front brakes making such bad noise, I haven’t driven it except for very short trips (less than a 1/2 mile) since. He also drove it until the tires were bare, and the rims so bad I have to replace them as well.
My original plan was to use the truck when returned to earn money doing deliveries for DoorDash or similar since I am able to work while on disability. I would then have money to repaint the garage, & get things fixed around the house (the bath is only partially remodeled, as my son did only 2/3 of the tile in the shower and stopped 3 years ago because he couldn’t figure it out. I’d also purchased the sink & toilet & the toilet seal has been leaking for so long, I may have to replace joists as well as the plywood when I get to that. I also have the replacement tile for the kitchen and foyer area but not the underlay).
I am not asking for the money to hire someone to do this work. All I am asking for is the ability to go to work to earn money to fix the problems on my own. This was The Plan.
Then, I received a notice from my homeowners insurance they won’t rewrite my policy without the garage being repainted as well as window repairs and my porch. On top of it, I was fined $200 by the city because the gutter fell off and the soffits need to be reinstalled (the wood is ok until I get to the valley as you can see in the photos).
When I broke down at the doctor's during my last visit and told him all that was wrong & that my son had promised not to leave me in this exact situation but did, he contacted Social Services. Two of them actually contacted me but after learning what kind of help I needed, they never called back! As they’d said they’d contact me with information on who to turn to, I didn’t write down their names or contact information. When I told them my situation, they never returned my call. I keep hearing there is no money and I’m getting nothing but scammers.
