Randy Bain, aka Batman, has pushed through some hard battles in the past year. In July 2024, he was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma on his right cheek. Fast forward to October, he underwent Mohs surgery to remove the area. The procedure was not successful in removing the entire lesion. He was referred to a specialist at UNC and on October 18, 2024, he had a more invasive surgery to remove the remainder of the cancer. He got the phone call several days later that the cancer had extended past the area they removed. He pushed on and had another very detailed surgery January 7, 2025 at UNC with a whole team of surgeons dedicated to help him win this battle. The doctors had to remove part of his jaw bone, his parotid gland, lymph nodes, facial nerves and several inches of skin. With many prayers from family, friends and the community, he started his recovery. The days after were long, hard and painful to say the least. Since that surgery, Randy has underwent at least 3 more minor surgeries to correct nerve damage. He started post-op radiation the following February and officially graduated on April 9, 2025 at Cape Fear Valley. He still continues to get hydration weekly due to his weight loss. He depends on nutritional supplements daily because of the impact the surgery and radiation has had on his mouth and face.
If you know Randy, you know how dedicated he is to his family, job and community. He pushed through the pain and still showed up to work at the Angier Recreation Department. He still helped officiate ballgames and assisted where he was needed. His impact on the community does not go unnoticed in the slightest.
Randy has been an official with Triangle softball, Tarheel Leagues, Triangle football, Triangle basketball and Triangle baseball to name a few. He has had a passion for sports his entire life. To know him is to love him. He is outgoing and would do anything for anyone.
This is a perfect opportunity to help him the way he has helped everyone around him. He had to stop working weeks at a time and has had to give up many, many games because of the challenges he has faced over the last year. He loves what he does and he misses his normal routine.
He is a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend but above all he is a fighter! We are trying to help ease the burden of medical bills so he can finish his recovery. He has done so much for everyone and we would love to honor him during this time to take some stress off of him financially. If you feel led to do so, contributions of any amount are appreciated to get Randy (Batman, G-Pa, Butterbean) back on his feet. Thank you to each and every one who has reached out along the way. The warm thoughts and prayers have been appreciated more than you know. His support system has truly amazed us all. Here’s to getting George back in the game.
Thank you.
