Quiana was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in January 2019. She had a tumor in her pelvis that was causing extreme pain in her hamstring. Quiana was treated at OHSU in Portland, receiving 18 rounds of inpatient chemotherapy and 36 radiation treatments. By the end of 2019 she was “cancer free.”

January 2022, after routine scans, it was discovered that the original tumor was growing again. Western Medicine does not have a cure for relapsed Ewing’s Sarcoma. Treatment may slow the disease down but is not considered curative. Chemotherapy was started as well as the search for other options. In February 2022 Quiana started “alternative treatment” infusions at Sunridge Medical in Scottsdale, AZ. She received the infusions once a month and chemotherapy every other week until June 2022. Scans then showed that progression had stopped, and the decision was made discontinue chemotherapy. Chemotherapy did not seem to be helping with Quiana’s quality of life, and they hoped the Arizona infusions would be enough to keep the disease stable. The alternative treatment infusions were continued for a week every month until June 2023. Quiana’s disease remained stable, so treatments were reduced to a week every 2 or 3 months. These treatments are not covered by insurance, and managing the associated costs was difficult.

Unfortunately, it was recently determined that the disease is progressing again and the original tumor is growing. This time causing quite a bit of pain for Quiana. The tumor is at her S1, S2, S3 and seems to be affecting a lot of nerves. Numerous 2nd opinions have all concluded the same answer. Long term survival, even with treatment is 5 – 7%. Oncologists are encouraging Quiana to take chemotherapy but with relapsed disease there is a high chance there will be no benefit and a small chance it could slow tumor growth. At this time, Quiana does not want the decrease in quality of life associated with chemotherapy. Radiation remains a possibility and should help with pain control and possibly some tumor destruction. There is a strong feeling that Quiana’s alternative treatment infusions from Arizona were working and backing off on them could have caused this relapse. For the next couple of months, they plan to increase these treatments significantly. The goal is 5 days every other week. The hope is that after a couple of months of increased dosage and frequency, these infusions will stop the progression we are currently seeing.

Please consider supporting Quiana’s family as they continue Q’s fight. The cost of one day of infusions is $2,300 as well as travel expenses associated with every trip to Phoenix. The goal is 6 weeks of treatment costing around $60,000. As in all things, there is no guarantee these treatments will work, but at this point, Quiana is doing so well, we cannot give up the fight!!!

Just a girl and her pigs.....!!!
