I'm reaching out with a heavy heart, as this is perhaps the most difficult message I've ever had to share. In 2016, I sustained a spinal cord injury known as Myelomalacia, resulting from a compression that left a permanent mark on my cervical spine. An attempt was made to relieve it by fusing three vertebrae, but since then, I've lost the ability to walk unassisted. My hands, feet, and legs endure constant numbness and pain.
Compounding these challenges, severe osteoporosis has been diagnosed in my hip and neck, complicating surgical options due to the fragility of my bones. The Cleveland Clinic has advised against surgery and offered limited pain management solutions. I'm currently undergoing a two-year treatment of daily injections costing $600 a month to rebuild my bone density, with hopes of a future hip replacement. I also need an additional fusion in my cervical spine, but right now there isn’t enough bone to work with, so a bad fall could definitely cost me my life.
Living a "gentle life," as recommended by doctors, is a daunting prospect for someone who has always thrived on helping others. But now, I find myself in need of assistance. Simple tasks like cleaning, laundry, and grocery shopping are beyond my capability, and being in my current home poses significant safety risks.
My insurance is ending soon, leaving me uncertain about future medical expenses. The financial burden of ongoing treatments and hiring help for daily activities is overwhelming. Asking for help is never easy, but I hope to count on your support to navigate these difficult times. Your kindness and generosity would make an immense difference in my life, offering the stability and care I desperately need.
Thank you for reading my story and considering supporting my GoFundMe campaign.
