When I met Miss Kim she was unhoused, living outside near a grocery store. I brought her a drink on a hot day and got to know her and her story. That’s how I learned that not only was she struggling to survive unhoused but also battling kidney cancer and that she’d lost her husband just last year.
I continued to check on Miss Kim, bringing her water, food, and some first aid supplies for a terrible infection she had in one of her legs. One day when I checked on her it was so hot she was borderline unresponsive, slumped over in her chair and dripping sweat. I knew we needed to do something more. After continuing to get to know her and doing what I could I asked if she be comfortable setting up a GoFundMe and a TikTok. She agreed and so with her permission we started trying to get her off the streets by sharing her story.
Thanks to so many kind and generous people we’ve had Miss Kim in an extended stay hotel since July. She’s also been able to attend all of her chemotherapy appointments! She now has a 6 month break from chemo.
All of the donations go toward paying for her to have a place to stay, food, transportation, medicine, and medical care. She’s incredibly grateful for how much people have done for her and continue to do for her.
Our long term goal is to get her a permanent place to call her own. She now has a social worker working to get her disability payments. If we can get her a home of her own hopefully her disability will be enough for her to live on for food and other bills.
She’d like to stay in the Charlotte area. We’ve found several trailer homes for sale in the 60k-90k range which would be perfect for her.
