Our story starts with the kind of close family that lives on top of each other literally. My parents and sister on the first floor and brother and his girlfriend on the second and myself, girlfriend, and son on the 3rd. We have been happy up until our son’s 1 year doctor appointment. That is when we discovered he was positive for lead exposure. After contacting the landlord and unsafe removal of the lead started with our family still present in the home. In the last 20 days since his last blood test the lead exposure has doubled. 10 months of exposure in 20 days to be precise. Upon speaking with a nurse an inspector came out to see the property and there are many unsafe conditions. Our landlords property is in violation with the law and therefore half of our unit is now uninhabitable. Within a couple days of the inspector coming we had been presented with a new lease with an increase of 600$ bringing our rent to a 2,200$ total. A lead disclosure, pet disclosure that includes removing our 2 dogs and neutering our cats and providing proof. With threats to start the eviction process if we don’t pay the increase. We have involved the Neighborhood department of services, Health department, a social worker, an attorney, and TMJ4s Jenna Rae. My son and his mother are effectively being relocated to safe family environment following and emotional week after threats to continue the removal despite the safety of our infants health. We are currently looking for a new home and resources to keep our family safe and together. Any help provided by our community is a blessing while we sort the details of a large scale relocation. All of the continuous help from people actively involved are surly appreciated and we look forward to getting back to a level of normality.
