Hi, my name is Dana, and I’m Poppy’s mom.

Our sweet baby girl, Poppy, has been a fighter since the very moment she entered this world. She was born not breathing and had to be resuscitated in the delivery room. Those first moments of her life were terrifying, but Poppy showed us her strength right away.

During her first few days, Poppy began having up to 30 seizures a day, and we didn’t know if she would even make it home. It was during this time that we learned our little girl was diagnosed with Achondroplasia, a form of skeletal dysplasia that will affect her bone growth throughout her life.

As if this journey wasn’t already difficult enough, we recently received more heartbreaking news: the abnormal bone growth is now putting pressure on her brain stem. Without intervention, Poppy could face severe cognitive impairment or even stop breathing. Her medical team is closely monitoring her, and they believe she may need neurosurgery to decompress the base of her skull in the near future to relieve this pressure and give her the best chance at life.

Poppy has spent her entire life in the NICU so far, fighting every single day to stay with us. We are now preparing for her next battle—this possible surgery—and the challenges that come with it. She will also require specialized medical equipment, therapies, and ongoing care as she grows.

As her parents, we are doing everything in our power to give her the best chance at life, but the costs of medical bills, hospital stays, and equipment are overwhelming.
