As some of you may already know, my son Phoenix is 15 years old and lives with Autism. He is mostly non-verbal and can become aggressive towards himself and others. The area we live in doesn't have very many resources for people like him.
For about a year now, we have been working on finding him a residential home to stay at to provide him with the tools to best meet his educational, mental, emotional, and community involvement needs, as well as provide our family with respite. The level of care he needs takes a village/team of skilled professionals, and I am saddened and humbled admitting that I simply cannot do this for him on my own.
Phoenix has been accepted into an amazing home where he will attend the local school and have access to in-home therapies, including speech, occupational, physical, and behavioral. He will have his own room and share the home with 2 other kids. This is a minimum of a 6-month program designed as a sort of rehabilitation. The goal is for Phoenix to learn the skills he needs to be able to stop being aggressive and better communicate.
My heart breaks and is also filled with joy for him and my family.
I am asking for funds for the trip to get him to this home. It's about a 4-hour drive away. I do not have the funds for gas to get there.
Admission date is March 11th.
The plan is to drive there with all 5 kids and go into the home with Phoenix and spend a few hours there, have a meal together, and make sure he is settled into his room. Then make the trip back home.
I am also asking for funds for a hotel for that night. It will be a very long day, and Phoenix's youngest sibling will still be less than 1 month old and is exclusively breastfed. I would like to be able to spend a night in the area to also just be close by for the first night that Phoenix will be there.
And of course, gas to get back home.
I'm trusting God to make the way, but I also understand that money doesn't just fall into hands who don't express a need.
Please consider donating to us for this and praying for safety and for Phoenix's heart and mind and those within the home as well.
