Who is Philip Bower?

Philip Bower is a kind and empathetic individual, as well as a clinical psychologist with an emphasis in social work who hails from Tacoma. Philip has dedicated his life to helping people cultivate inner peace, build resilience, and foster a deeper connection to themselves and the world around them. Philip is also partner to my cousin, Shawn Moore. They have been together for more than 2 years and he is a beloved member of our family. He recently moved in with Shawn to help care for him following his diagnosis of advanced kidney cancer in May 2024. Philip has selflessly put his career and life on hold to be there for my cousin.

What is Philip's situation?

We all know that life doesn't stop when someone we love is facing a health crisis and bills don't pay themselves. Over the past few months, Philip has become Shawn's full-time caregiver, and our family is so grateful for him. He has been driving him to his appointments, advocating for Shawn with doctors, cooking him healthy meals, helping him with his daily activities, and comforting him when he is in pain or experiencing mobility issues.

Philip loves Shawn dearly and wants to spend as much time with him as possible. However, these activities have also taken a toll on Philip's own well-being and finances. Philip has lost his regular income as a clinical psychologist, as he had to cancel on his clients and take brief leaves of absence from his job to shuttle Shawn to radiation therapy, physical therapy, unexpected trips to the ER, etc. He has also been contributing to their rent, utilities, groceries, and other living costs, which are quite high in Seattle. Unfortunately, with the loss of some of his regular clientele, Philip is now experiencing financial hardship, is struggling to make ends meet, and does not want to dip into the Go Fund Me designated to help Shawn through this period where he is unable to work as a hair designer.

Why does Philip need our help?

Philip needs our help to raise $15,000 to help him cope with his current financial hardship. This money will help him pay for his essential expenses and give him some peace of mind. It will also allow Philip to continue to care for Shawn on his own schedule and evaluate his client schedules as they relate to this new life rhythm. Philip wants to focus on Shawn's health and well-being, and not on his own stress and worries.
