To know John Koopman is to love John Koopman. In my almost 30 years of knowing John, I have never met anyone who didn't light up when he walked into the room. John is one of the most caring, sensitive, honest, and loving people I know. He has been an amazing step-father to me and my siblings and an adoring husband to my mom for 27 years.

Three weeks ago, John had a stroke while visiting my brother and sister-in-law in England. This was absolutely shocking to all of us, as John is incredibly fit and healthy. Once the stroke was identified, he had a surgical procedure called Posterior fossa decompression to relieve the swelling in his skull. John spent 9 days in the hospital and was released to go back to an Air BNB with my mom until he could fly home.

Since leaving the hospital on 5/9/22, John has progressively gotten worse. He has unrelenting headaches and has been vomiting up everything he eats or drinks. He has lost over 20lbs and is extremely weak. He has returned to the ER once, which was a disaster. The ambulance took 4 hours to arrive. Then he waited in the ambulance for another 4 hours, only to be admitted to the ER for some IV fluids and sent home with anti-nausea medication, which causes him to vomit. The hospital will not readmit him in-patient, so John is getting more dehydrated and weaker by the day. The stress that this is causing him and my mom is unbearable.

We need John to come back to the states where he can be admitted to the hospital, treated by his own doctors, and begin his way to recovery. His health and prognosis are rapidly declining at the moment, and we are petrified that we are going to lose him. Because he is not well enough to fly back on a commercial airline, we had to book him/my mom an air ambulance so that John can be attached to an IV and have his health monitored until he can get to a hospital in San Diego. This is going to cost our family $120,000. This amount doesn't include all of the medical bills accumulated during their stay in England, which are not covered by his health insurance.
