Our sweet, beloved, Patti Rogers, was involved in an accident on July 31. She has sustained multiple injuries to her leg when she was accidentally run over by a heavy truck. Some of her injuries include 4th-degree burns on her inner thigh down to the bottom of her leg, several injuries to her knee including a torn ACL, PCL, meniscus tear, patella fracture and dislocation, and extensive damage to all the soft tissue on the outer knee. Additional injuries are a tibial fracture, a crushed ankle, and damage to the upper thigh muscle. Patti is immobile due to an external fixator that she will have on her leg for about 6 weeks. The doctors say the injuries to her knee are some of the worst knee injuries one can sustain. When the X-Fix is removed, Patti will need surgery to repair the soft tissue damage on her knee. She will not be able to bear weight on her leg for about 3 months after surgery and spend the following year in physical therapy, including in house therapy, to kearn how to walk again
One of the only doctors in the state of Alabama that can do the surgery that Patti needs is with UAB. Unfortunately, UAB does not take Patti's insurance. We do not know how much the surgery will be, but it will probably be in the hundreds of thousands.
Because Patti is immobile, her income is greatly compromised.
In the meantime, her bills continue to come in.
if you are a friend of Patti then you know her beautiful, kind, generous and loving spirit. She would help anyone with no questions or judgement. Her infectious laugh warms the heart of everyone she meets. I admire the strength with which she is tackling this head-on while still maintaining her loving and kind demeanor.
As charismatic as Patti is, unfortunately that doesn't pay the doctor bills that are already pouring in. So, we are reaching out to friends and anyone else who has been touched by her sweet spirit to help contribute to her growing medical bills.
Thank you for any consideration for Patti. It will be greatly appreciated. And financial help will go towards her hospital bills and the surgery.
