The Correa Family has experienced some struggling times in the last 7 plus months with their sweet Ophelia's birth and her extensive health issues. This family as a unit is so loving and strong, but sometimes you need more than this. Please read their story and any help is greatly appreciated. This is just the beginning of their long journey for their family.

Ophelia was born with a rare congenital heart defect: Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome with Pulmonary Atresia and Intact Ventricular Septum (PA/IVS). This is a lifelong condition that can require 3–5 surgeries by the age of five.

She has already undergone emergency heart surgery, and her first planned surgery is scheduled for this fall.

At just 10 days old, during a catheterization procedure to open her pulmonary outflow tract, Ophelia suffered a tear in her heart and went into cardiac arrest. She was placed on ECMO and underwent emergency open-heart surgery to repair the tear. Although she was strong enough to come off ECMO, she coded again after returning to her room.

As a result of the two cardiac arrests, she suffered a stroke, a brain bleed, seizures, and developed blood clots dangerously close to her brain. Thankfully, her body was able to cover the clots, but now has minimal blood flow on one side of her neck.

In addition to her heart condition and medical emergency, Ophelia has had to deal with arrhythmia, silent aspiration, multiple catherizations, a partially collapsed trachea, countless tests and has required G-tube surgery. She is monitored very closely daily and is constantly in and out of the hospital for procedures, appointments, and therapy.

And yet—despite everything—you will never meet a happier baby.
