I am a Puerto Rican poet and playwright. The last time I wrote for the stage and directed actors, I was teaching full-time and held rehearsals on weekends and during the evenings. The whirlwind of activity was exhilarating and exhausting. I paid for rehearsal spaces, actors’ work and handled marketing as well. Now, I’m trying something different.

My current goal is to finish writing a play and a screenplay that revolve around the lives of Latino mystics - individuals with a gift for spiritual work and psychic abilities. This $10,000 would allow me to work less and focus more on finishing this writing.

I have actors who are interested in the project and one of them is an 83-year-old Colombian woman, so that is a big consideration for me. Time is of the essence and she's very excited about the possibility of being onstage again.

I believe work of a spiritual nature is important right now and seeing the work performed by Latinos would be a great boon to the artistic community.
