My name is Nyla Simmons, and I am a first-generation college student pursuing my dream of becoming a nurse at Wayne State University. Growing up, I faced heartbreaking losses—my mother died suddenly when I was 13, and two years later, I lost my grandfather—both of whom were instrumental in shaping and motivating me to work hard to reach my goals. Since their deaths, I have been determined to make them proud by earning my bachelor’s degree at Wayne State University for nursing.
