Help Nikki Heal from a Complex Spine Surgery

Dear Friends and Family,

We are writing this on behalf of our sister, Nikki, who has been quietly enduring an incredibly painful and challenging health journey over the past four years.

In 2020, Nikki began experiencing severe neck pain that gradually turned debilitating. After exhausting conservative treatments like physical therapy, injections, and medications, she was referred to a neurosurgeon who diagnosed her with cervical spondylosis with radiculopathy—a condition where nerve roots in the cervical spine become compressed due to bone spurs. These spurs are dangerously close to a major artery in her upper neck (C2-C3), making her condition not only painful but also high-risk to treat.

Despite her best efforts to keep working and pushing through, Nikki has been unable to work since March. The pain, limited mobility, and side effects from her medications have made it impossible for her to care for herself independently. She’s had multiple ER visits, scans, and procedures—and continues to fight every single day to heal.

In late March, she underwent a complex spinal surgery where her neurosurgeon removed about half of the bone spurs. While some decompression was successful, the surgeon had to act with extreme caution due to how close the remaining spurs were to the artery. Unfortunately, Nikki’s pain persisted after weeks of recovery, and a follow-up scan confirmed what she feared—another surgery was needed.

Today, she is undergoing her second (and we pray final) surgery. This one will go deeper into the risky area to relieve the remaining compression. Nikki is in excellent hands, and we’re hopeful for a successful outcome and a real chance at getting her life back.

It’s not easy for Nikki to ask for help—as a single mom she learned to be strong, and incredibly independent despite going through two brain surgeries that saved her life during that time. But after watching her suffer in silence for too long, we encouraged her to let us rally around her.
