My name is Janus, and this is my cat, Shilo. Shilo is a small black kitty who weighs a little less than 10 pounds. She’s four years old, and has been with me for most of her life since I rescued her off the streets.

I lovingly refer to her as my little mold spore and my partner and I joke that she was formed out of trash and radiation. But, despite her antics, she’s my little princess and I would do anything for her.

For a few months now, Shilo has been getting hairballs—big ones. I’ve tried extra hydration, gels, brushing her fur, but she still is vomiting them up at least once or twice a week. I decided to take her to the vet, and they explained that the cause could be anywhere from inflamed intestines to a mass in her belly. They explained the tests needed and the cost for each. Shilo is also very clingy as I adopted her during the pandemic. When I or my partner is not present, she becomes nervous and aggressive, so the vet would also need to give her a sedative to examine her. The estimated costs come to about $830.

I live paycheck to paycheck, so you can imagine the sinking feeling in my stomach when I read the total. After a discussion with her vet about my finances, we decided to start with a food trial (far more affordable) to determine if she had some kind of reaction to the food I was giving her, and after 3 months we would do the full examination.

Besides hairballs, Shilo has been her usual self—but I fear for her, especially since she is so young. Due to my current financial situation, it is not possible for me to put money aside to save up for her exams, which is why I’m here. My goal is slightly higher as I’m unsure if the fees will change, and if they do find something concerning, I will need to cover the additional treatment needed.

Shilo has been with me through some of the darkest points in my life, and I want her to have a long life at my side. She’s part of my family. Every dollar donated will be used for her treatment and comfort.
