Imagine being a child who has to focus on math, reading, and learning while your stomach aches from hunger. For many students at Kebere Primary School and Nyamonyo Primary School in Kenya’s Ogembo region, this is their everyday reality. For many children at Kebere and Nyamonyo Primary Schools, attending class isn’t just about learning, it’s about getting their only meal of the day.

Through the MORAA MEMA Initiative Inc., we began a school feeding program, hoping to make a small but significant difference. We partnered with local farmers to source nutritious food and, with the help of dedicated staff and volunteers, we provided meals to these young students. But after running just a few rounds of food distributions, we’ve come to realize the depth of the need.

The situation is heartbreaking: most of these children face severe food insecurity at home. When school ends, they often return to empty cupboards and go to bed hungry. The meals we provide at school are, for many of them, their sole source of sustenance. This one meal is the lifeline that keeps them coming to school, keeps them engaged, and gives them hope.

Through our “Empowering Futures” project, we want to expand this feeding program and ensure that every child receives a daily, nutritious meal. We’ve seen firsthand how just one meal can transform a child’s day. A meal means they can focus in class, participate in activities, and dream of a better future. It’s a simple gift, but its impact is profound.
