Just 5 months ago, my world was turned upside down when doctors discovered a large 11.5 cm mass in my colon. After multiple referrals, I was sent to Indiana University Hospital to see Dr. Michael House, one of the top colorectal oncology surgeons.

On July 25th, I met with my oncologist, Dr. Jen, and began chemotherapy just a few weeks later. Unfortunately, I suffered a severe reaction that caused a partial bowel obstruction, and I have now been in the hospital for nearly two weeks. Today was the very first day I was able to drink clear liquids again, it has been an incredibly difficult journey.

I will soon undergo major surgery. A 4–6 hour operation to remove the mass (which has grown larger), along with affected lymph nodes around my aorta. Doctors may also need to remove part of my bowel or colon and then reconnect it. The road ahead is still uncertain, but I’m fighting every day to get back home to my family.

As you can imagine, the financial strain has been overwhelming:

• My ambulance ride alone from South Bend to Indianapolis was over $2,000.

• Even with insurance, my deductible is $6,000, and I’m facing constant medical bills for doctor visits, chemo, PET scans, and hospital stays.

• My family travels, which means extra costs for gas, hotels, and food, since they cannot stay overnight in my hospital room. And since I’m in Indianapolis now.

• With a hospital stay stretching close to a month, and a major surgery ahead, the expenses are only growing.

I am sharing my story because I need help. Any donation, big or small, will go directly toward medical bills, travel costs, and surgery expenses as I continue this fight.
